EMV® MOBILE L1 TEST GUIDELINES v3.2a – WHAT’S NEW?

– Abstract –

EMV® Mobile supports the use of mobile devices for secure and convenient contactless payments. This includes mobile wallets and other card-based payments made with smartphones, tablets, and wearables using NFC technology.

Considering the rise in mobile phone and wearable devices usage for payments and to follow the evolution of the market’s needs, EMVCo has decided to update the Guidelines for EMV® Mobile Product Level 1 Type Approval: Mobile L1 Test Guidelines from version 3.0b1 to version 3.2a.

Testing a Mobile product differs from testing a card due to the differences in hardware and software characteristics. And so in this new version 3.2a, EMVCo has defined guidelines aimed at adapting the existing EMV Contactless PICC Testing to mobile Level 1 Testing by:

  • Defining the reference testing position as the center of the Mobile RF antenna,
  • Defining the specifics transaction flow for testing mobile devices during cryptographic exchanges,
  • Defining Level 1 mobile-specific dispositions.

The purpose of this document is to summarize the main changes introduced by EMVCo when testing a Mobile instead of a PICC (definition of the DUT, analog and digital dispositions, and corresponding test plans).
